PITFALL 3
Adapting content without rethinking delivery
WHY IT'S A PROBLEM
Relevant content alone isn’t enough. How it’s delivered must be carefully considered and thoughtfully designed to align with community needs and realities to ensure effective programming. For adaptation to succeed, both what is shared and how it’s shared are equally important.

Design delivery methods that fit community realities
HOW THE PITFALL WAS OVERCOME
When adapting an IPV prevention programme from Ethiopia to a refugee setting in Somalia, displacement and insecurity made it hard for some community members to regularly attend in-person sessions. To improve access, the team identified the programme's core components and reimagined in-person sessions as podcast episodes featuring dramas, interviews, debates, and a fictional couple modelling skills and exercises. This maintained fidelity to the programme while creating new ways to reach and engage the community.
